Worth It? The ‘Cloud’ at Home.

Recent predictions from research firms Forrester and Gartner imply the “cloud” is hardly a fluffy thing, with the global market for cloud computing expected to grow six-fold in the next ten years.

That’s great news, for people who understand what the cloud is.

Turns out, you probably do know what the cloud is – you just didn’t know you knew.

In short, it’s the Web, and the ability to store data and run programs using the Internet, rather than running these tasks from a local computer desktop or hard drive. This saves space on your hard drive and means you don’t have to worry as much about backups – although the recent outage of Amazon’s cloud system also shows the downside.
