Solarwinds Releases Software Update to Automatically Deploy Oracle’s Java 7 Patch

AUSTIN, TX – January 15, 2013 – SolarWinds (NYSE: SWI), a leading provider of powerful and affordable IT management software, today announced that it has updated, SolarWinds Patch Manager, its patch management product, to enable IT professionals to manage any exposure they may have to the latest Java vulnerability that was recently announced. Effective immediately, IT professionals can fully deploy the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 7 patch to their environments using the 30-day free trial version of this product.
Yesterday, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security reiterated its warning to Java users that the widely used Web plug-in still posed risks for Internet users, even after Oracle patched the software to prevent hackers from exploiting a zero-day vulnerability.
SolarWinds’ patch management solution helps IT pros protect servers, networks and applications against known vulnerabilities and pass patch compliance audits through an automated patch management process. By downloading the evaluation of SolarWinds Patch Manager, IT pros can quickly and easily deploy the JRE 7 patch and be up and running in a matter of hours, as opposed to days if using scripts or doing it manually.
“For many, if not most, organizations, Java is a critical infrastructure required to use a large number of business applications,” said Lawrence Garvin, SolarWinds Head Geek. “This critical update to our free SolarWinds Patch Manager evaluation gives the IT professional community access to a tool that can help them distribute the fix in a timely fashion.”
How to Deploy the JRE 7 Patch Using SolarWinds Patch Manager
Step 1: Download the free 30-day SolarWinds Patch Manager evaluation.
Step 2: Configure SolarWinds Patch Manager using the Evaluation Guide (instructions for publishing the JRE update are found on page 30).
Step 3: For WSUS, approve the update for installation. For ConfigMgr, add the update to an existing Deployment Package.
