Los Angeles, CA (March 27, 2015) – Founder and CEO of Oblong Industries, John Underkoffler, will take part in Europe’s largest unified communications and collaboration event, UC Expo, to be held in London on 21-22 April 2015.

Underkoffler will be making a keynote address on Tuesday 21 April at 10:40 – 11:10 in the Theatre.  His session explores the Future of Working.  According to Underkoffler, the next decade’s most important professional efforts will involve rich, sustained collaboration — workflows proximal and across distances.  But true collaboration (not just see-and-talk videoconferencing) requires new digital tools; current applications consider only a single person at a time.

Attendees with hear how this gap is filled by an emerging form of computation that allows teams to work simultaneously on many large displays and surfaces, using the various devices they already have to control the shared screens, to contribute content to those screens, and to manipulate shared content and applications.   These systems can, further, connect to similar rooms to allow multiple teams to collaborate simultaneously across distance. The new UI is fundamentally spatial, which renders the shared pixels ‘universally interoperable’ and mimics and amplifies the way people already work together in architectural spaces. Teams empowered with proper digital collaboration tools work more creatively, execute more quickly, and make better real-time decisions.

Registration for the keynote session is free and can be booked via the expo’s website – www.UCexpo.co.uk/register

An ideal addition to the UC Expo agenda, Underkoffler envisioned the future of the workplace for films such as Minority Report and Iron Man.  He then went on to establish Oblong Industries, Inc to bring that sci-fi technology to the market – in fact, it is now a reality in Mezzanine™ which seamlessly blends physical and digital environments to create a shared workspace across distributed locations.

UC EXPO 2015 is the largest Unified Communications and Collaboration event in Europe. The two-day event encompasses the technologies that enable smarter working and a truly connected business. The event attracts 5,000+ ICT professionals looking to improve their organization’s communication and collaboration systems and infrastructure. UC Expo offers 80+ conference sessions, including the “Future Of” panel discussion series. John Underkoffler will be a panelist on the “Future of Videoconferencing” session with executives from Polycom, BlueJeans, and Vidyo, moderated by Adrian Drozd, Research Director at Frost & Sullivan.
