Do you need a specialist developer to build your business website?

May 20, 2015 No Comments

Despite knowing that we need to be as tech-savvy as possible in a hi-tech world, we’re not all cut out to really get our heads around designing a business website. If that strikes a chord with you, then what are your options?

You will want a site that sells your business, but you also need to consider what the potential costs are, and how much time it could take to make sure you’ve got the best website you can have.

In-house

If you have a bit of tech knowhow, or a colleague or employee does, you could do it yourself by using a simple website building program (there are plenty available). It won’t cost you very much (except in time taken to customize your text and images on the prepared template), but if you want advanced functionality, then you’re limited to how many plugins are available in the builder program.

In between

You can choose a content management system that gives you more options to develop what you want for your site. WordPress is used by thousands of people, and you have the option to choose a huge number of plugins and themes to make your site attractive and functional. WordPress is free, but your site will need to be hosted by a reputable company. Check out Bob Parsons on LinkedIn to find out about GoDaddy, a hosting and website-building business.

Use professionals

It’s often a more expensive option, but sometimes the best thing to do is to bring in the experts. After all, building websites is what they do. Hiring a web designer actually saves you time, and you can work closely with professionals to get exactly the right website for you.

Good web designers can quickly work through your requirements in terms of how you want your pages to look, how easy they will be to navigate, and what functions are important to your business. You also need to consider if you want to manage the site after it’s been constructed. You can ask your designer to do it for you, but it can become expensive. If that’s not a concern, then you can leave it in capable hands to sort out any problems and glitches.

It’s your choice

Depending on how much work you want to do yourself, you can make an informed choice. Website design doesn’t have to be complicated, but if you want a complex site, then it’s best to go with the experts.
