A new Cloud Technology Solutions survey reveals that SMBs and customers in North America are leading the way in going Google.

New research from Cloud Technology Solutions (CTS) has revealed who, what and where in the world is ‘going Google’. The Google Apps premier reseller has carried out a survey to find out more about Google Apps customers, and compiled the findings in an easy-to-read graphic.

The survey – based on answers from the top Google Apps partners throughout the world – aimed to discover the different verticals that are converting to Google, the geographical areas where this is happening, the platforms that organisations are migrating from and the size of businesses switching to Google Apps.

It was shown that small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are leading the way, with 27% going Google. This was ahead of manufacturing (16%), retail (15%), services (15%) and education (14%). From a geographical perspective, it is in North America (47%) and Europe, the Middle East and Africa (36%) where most companies are going down the Google Apps route.

Just under half (48%) of Google Apps customers have migrated from Microsoft Exchange, while Lotus Notes (now IBM Notes) was highlighted as another key battleground, with 23% making the move. The typical size of a Google Apps customer was found to have between 200 and 749 users (34%), although larger companies are also starting to make the switch (13%).

James Doggart, Chief Executive Officer of CTS, explained the company is in a unique position when it comes to identifying trends across the Google Apps market. He stated: “We have such a wide reach with our partners across more than 20 countries, all verticals and sectors, so drilling down with this survey was quite easy. I really hope this helps our partners frame where they spend their marketing budgets.”

The survey included input from the top Google Apps partners across the globe, which CTS estimates are collectively responsible for around 12 million Google Apps users.

Cloud Technology Solutions is one of Europe’s leading Google Enterprise Partners and has worked with more than one million users around the world to take on Google Apps as a business solution. Based in Manchester city centre, the company was established in 2008 and assists organisations in giving a smooth and secure transition from their current IT environment to Google’s cloud infrastructure.
