Celebrating Sysadminos – The Greek God of IT!

ManageEngine SysAdmin Day cartoon

Do you know what’s special about July 31 this year?

It’s the 16th annual System Administrator Appreciation Day — SysAdmin Day for short. Ted Kekatos founded SysAdmin Day in the year 2000 to show appreciation for all the good work sysadmins put in throughout the year to keep our IT up and running.

If you didn’t know that, you’re not alone. You know now, and ManageEngine would like other people to know, too. That’s why we pulled up our socks and went to town creating awareness about sysadmins.

Know Your Sysadmin – A Video

We asked random people on the road about the basics of IT and who fixes their IT problems — and we captured their answers on camera. The video reveals how little IT users know about sysadmins and how sysadmins’ work is taken for granted. All the more reason for us to do our part by letting the world know about the unsung heroes of IT! Watch the video at https://www.manageengine.com/video-lounge.html.

Myths vs. Facts – An Infographic

To show our appreciation for sysadmins, we wanted to go the extra mile to learn more about them. So we decided it was time to bust some myths and find out if some perceptions were facts. To this end, we conducted a survey with statements that expressed commonly held perceptions about sysadmins’ work and life outside work.

The overwhelming response from more than 2,000 sysadmins supported some facts while busting some myths! A few of the things we learned about sysadmins include:

– 55 percent keep their desks messy.

– 51 percent hardly miss a date due to work (who would’ve guessed sysadmins would be such romantics at heart?).

– 41 percent claimed to be born geeks.

– 48 percent work the nominal nine hours a day.

– 55 percent, sadly, feel unappreciated for all of their work, and they wouldn’t mind a pint of thanks now and then.

Caption the GIF – A Caption Contest

GIFs and captions. Say no more! The humongous number of responses to the contest in which sysadmins had to caption some GIFs proved beyond a doubt that sysadmins aren’t just technology wizards; many are also humorists and comedians. The witty captions bring to light another side of the sysadmins — their ability to make light of situations at work which would otherwise seem mundane.

Send E-cards – A Campaign to Appreciate Sysadmins Worldwide

What’s SysAdmin Day without some props for the sysadmins? And what better way to send those props than via e-card? That’s exactly why we provided heartfelt expressions of gratitude in our e-card collection. Over 500 sysadmins have already shown gratitude and thanks for their fellow sysadmins by sending these e-cards.
