Alfresco Works With Lingotek to Streamline Translations Across Worldwide Websites

LEHI, Utah—December 13, 2012—Lingotek | The Translation Network and leader in collaborative translation solutions, today revealed it is helping drive an award-winning enterprise content management company’s global reach with Lingotek — Inside Drupal. Alfresco, the cloud-connected platform is using Lingotek — Inside Drupal with the Collaborative Translation Platform to launch its global websites, sync content and monitor real-time statistics associated with the progress of the websites’ translations. In streamlining the translation process in this way, Alfresco is able to communicate its corporate and product messages in a unified way to its nearly 8 million users worldwide.

Alfresco recently embarked on a worldwide website localization project in an effort to provide its software to new markets. The first order of business was to translate its website content into six languages — potentially more as the company expanded. But syncing content among websites has historically been a time-consuming and manual process, consisting of a flurry of emails with attachments typically sent to a translation agency. For Alfresco, whose content changes as many as 100 times a month, this option seemed less than optimal: By the time the translated content arrived, it would already potentially be outdated. Pure machine translation proved lacking as well: Alfresco needed highly accurate translations that took into account the nuances of local languages such as idioms and metaphors, which don’t translate directly from language to language.

Alfresco turned to Lingotek. Using Lingotek — Inside Drupal with the Collaborative Translation Platform, Alfresco could continuously and automatically translate its global content in real-time. And since Alfresco was already a Drupal user, it could localize the content for each of its global markets without leaving the Drupal site. Now, whenever Alfresco’s corporate website content changes, so, too, does each of its global sites: They are automatically synchronized, even with daily incremental changes to content. The platform also provides real-time statistics as to where the content stands in the translation process, so Alfresco always knows when a new or updated translation can be expected.

“Lingotek provides us with the tools we need to streamline the globalization of our website content,” said Chris Vitti, Director, Websites and Marketing Systems at Alfresco. “The ability to translate our content in real-time and communicate effectively with our valued customers is a significant advantage as we move into new worldwide markets.”

“Our ability to automate translation services certainly fulfills a critical business need to deliver product and marketing messages worldwide,” said Calvin Scharffs, vice president of marketing at Lingotek. “We’re excited to be an integral part of effective communication for today’s companies as they expand their footprint into new and lucrative markets.”
