Actuate BIRT Mobile Recognized as Leader in Mobile Business Intelligence

March 1, 2011 No Comments

SOURCE:  Actuate

Actuate Corporation (NASDAQ: BIRT), the people behind BIRT® and the leading open source Business Intelligence (BI) vendor, today announced that BIRT Mobile ranks as one of the leading mobile Business Intelligence (BI) solutions in the Dresner Advisory Services (DAS) “Mobile Business Intelligence Market Study” report. In this study, Actuate secured a ranking that exceeded a large majority of established BI vendors that provide mobile applications and support.

With the advent of the Apple®  iPad™ and the ensuing increased adoption in BI applications on mobile platforms, DAS revisited its Mobile BI Market Study from September 2010. The updated study uncovered dramatic changes in the last six months due to the onset of new platform entries, evolved BI software offerings and increased user experience and deployments.

As with the original study, DAS invited the BI vendor community to update their product profiles with their latest mobile features and included updated rankings based upon mobile platform and BI feature support. The results found that Actuate is an overall leader based on broad mobile platform support, level of platform integration and the number of BI features supported.  Actuate is one of the few BI vendors to provide native applications with capabilities that allow users the ability to drill down into content, orientation awareness, touch navigation, email and phone dialing  for multiple devices including the iPhone™, iPad™ and Blackberry® further validating its leading position in mobile BI.

“Study respondents have confirmed that within two years a significant percentage of users will consume BI content exclusively on mobile devices,“ said Howard Dresner, president and founder of Dresner Advisory Services.  “Mobile BI is here now and will become dominant within the next 2+ years. Accordingly, organizations must start now to learn, plan and begin implementing Mobile BI in order to avoid getting left behind.”

Key Findings

  • End users’ priority platform for Mobile Business Intelligence is the Apple iPad, followed by the BlackBerry. This represents a shift from 2010 when the iPhone was more dominant. As a result vendors have shifted in favor of Apple’s iPad tablet by making it the single top priority for Mobile BI application development.
  • Actuate is a leader with a total score of 15/20.
  • The demand for executive use of Mobile BI further solidified its top spot (top priority within ~ 80% of organizations) – with a slight uptick in the requirement for customers and suppliers.

“We are pleased that the Dresner Advisory report on Mobile Business Intelligence names Actuate’s BIRT Mobile as a leader,” said Nobby Akiha, senior vice president of marketing at Actuate. “BIRT Mobile provides rich information designed to meet the needs of large organizations to provide current, personalized business information to their increasingly mobile workforce leading to increased productivity and success for our customers.”
