5 Easy Techniques to Rank Your URL in Search Results

One of the foremost aspects of SEO is the framework of URLs. Search engines like, Google and Bing can handle lots of technical challenges and can easily rank your site. However, if you use some alternative techniques, you can be rest assured that your site will rank in search results. An SEO expert will tell you what techniques are right for higher lead generation and traffic.

Here are some techniques…

# Make the URL readable

The URL should be written in such a manner that your users can read and understand what they may expect, in case they click the link. It, however, does not mean that the URL needs to be as clear as a sentence, but it should at least create an interest in the minds of the users and they will be compelled to click it. One of the best ways to create readable URLs is to use the title of the blog or the page you are trying to promote.

Search engines can make use of the user data signal to determine, if a site is having traffic or not. They can accordingly rank your site. With unintelligible codes, you may not be able to have much lead.

# Canonicalize more than one URL with the same content

Do you have two or more URLs serving the same content? In that case, you can canonicalize them in 2 ways. When an SEO expert canonicalizes a URL, it means that he or she has chosen the best URL available from a list of similar URLs.

Firstly, you can opt for rel-canonical where you offer different versions of the same content to different types of users. One of the versions can be printer-friendly.

Secondly, you can use 301 Redirect in order to remove the duplicate content completely.

Due to the presence of duplicate content, your ranking signals can get split resulting in low search traffic. If both pages have the same ability to rank on search engine result pages, you can canonicalize the duplicate page to get higher search traffic for the original page.

# Insert keywords in the URL

The experts in an SEO company can tell you that by incorporating the right keyword in the URL you can point out your site to those users who hover on a link, see it on social media or in an e-mail. When the user hovers over the link, the URL appears on the left-hand side at the bottom of the screen.

Users often look at the keyword in the URL and assess whether they want to click the link or not. Also, a URL with a keyword can act as an anchor text in the absence of a proper anchor text.

# Create short URLs

Short URLs are any day better than long ones. If your site’s URL is around 50 to 60 characters in length, you can stay assured that it has the perfect size. The problem with long URLs is not search engines. We already know that search engines are perfectly capable of processing long URLs. But, the problem lies with users. Sharing, copying, and embedding URLs become easy when they are short.

# Avoid stop words

If your blog has stop words, such as a, or, but, and, etc, there is no need to put them in the URL. If you think that by removing the stop words, the URL will become shorter than it currently is, you may not add them.

Use the above-mentioned techniques to achieve rank in search engine result pages. With the right technique, the probability of traffic and conversion will increase.
